Update February 3, 2019 for Alpaca iOS version 1.7.0 and newer
We want to make the best Ravelry app possible, and doing so requires the app to be able to access and temporarily store certain information from your Ravelry profile. We believe the best way to protect your data is to not store it, and we do our best to store the least amount of information possible to deliver the best app possible.
To allow the app to work offline, the app caches some profile information locally on your device. When you sign out of or delete the app from your device, this data is removed.
When you allow Alpaca to access your location, this information is stored locally on your device. When location access is not permitted, the app may approximate your location using the "location" field in your Ravelry profile. This data is only used to help find nearby shops to display in the app.
We are not interested in identifying any individual user, but we are interested in knowing our audience as a whole. Alpaca uses Firebase Analytics to anonymously log screen views and language preferences to help us determine which areas of the app to focus on in future updates. If most of our users are using the app to add yarn to their yarn stash, we want to know so we can focus on improving the stash. If most of our users prefer French, we want to know so we can translate the app to French.
If the app crashes, log data may be sent to Firebase Analytics to help us determine the reason for the crash. Depending on the cause of the crash, this data may include urls that include your username or approximate location. This data is only used to help fix issues in the app.
Alpaca is an advertising supported application. This means that we offer the app to you at no cost, and in turn will sell advertising space in the app. When you purchase a product after opening a link to a product, the creators of Alpaca may receive a portion of the sale. When you interact with an advertisement, we create an anonymous log to help us determine the popularity of various advertisements. We do not provide any personal information to an advertiser when you interact with or view an advertisement.
Your privacy is important, and so is being transparent about how we collect, use, and share information. This policy is intended to help you understand the information Alpaca collects, and how it is used.
The Alpaca app (The "Service") was created and is supported by Atmosphere Interactive and is not officially affiliated with or supported by Ravelry. Alpaca is an Ad Supported mobile application that utilizes the Ravelry API to access content, is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is.
Information Collection and Use
The app uses some third party services that may collect information used to identify you:
• Firebase Analytics
These third party services are used to access your Ravelry profile, monitor the stability of the Service, and to determine which features should be added or improved.
In a case of an error (such as a crash) in the service, we collect data and information (through third party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.
While using the Service we may log data identifying the pages you visit. We use this data for determining popularity of pages, and may use this information in promotions, such as a mailing list to indicate the weeks most popular patterns, shops, and projects by view count. Such promotions will never include any of your personal viewing history information.
Disclosing Personal Information
We do not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or companies except when we have your permission.
Notwithstanding the above, if we have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary, we may share your personal information under the following circumstances:
• To satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request (which may include, but is not limited to, responding to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or establishing or exercising our legal rights or defending against legal claims)
• To enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof;
• To detect, prevent, investigate, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; or
• To protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of Alpaca, its users, or the public, as required or permitted by law, and to protect against potential threats to the physical safety of another person.
The Service may display targeted advertisements based on personal information. Advertisers (including ad serving companies) may assume that people who interact with, view, or click targeted ads meet such targeting criteria (such as, women ages 18-24 in a particular geographic area).
We do not provide any personal information to an advertiser when you interact with or view a targeted ad, however, by interacting with or viewing the ad, you are consenting to the possibility that the advertiser will make the assumption that you meet the targeting criteria used to display the ad.
When you interact with an advertisement, we will save a record of your interaction with the advertisement to help up determine what ads to show you in the future. We may share certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information with third parties (such as number of users who click on a particular advertisement), but that information shall not identify you individually.
We may employ third-party companies and individuals due to the following reasons:
• To facilitate our Service;
• To provide the Service on our behalf;
• To perform Service-related services; or
• To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.
We want to inform users of this Service that these third parties have access to your Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.
We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
